Clyburn Addresses Healthcare Issues

Marion, SC--U.S. Congressional Representative and House Majority Whip, James (Jim) Clyburn (D, SC-6) addressed the challenges of rural health care with medical professionals during an hour-long presentation hosted by Marion Regional Healthcare System.

Clyburn covered issues ranging from coverage for the uninsured to reimbursement rates affecting the State’s medical facilities.  “It is imperative that we make healthcare both effective and efficient,” he said. Clyburn, concerned not only with insurance coverage, but the accessibility of care for the State’s rural populous, is proposing a program that will utilize technology to link smaller facilities to larger, regional facilities.

“One of today’s biggest problems is that healthcare is not accessible. The system must be there for everyone,” he said.

At 68, Clyburn is recognized as one of today’s most influential political leaders. A close associate and staunch supporter of President Obama, the South Carolina leader, and Sumter native, is credited with moving through Congress Obama’s $787 billion economic stimulus plan.
