Marion, SC--Marion Regional Healthcare System has announced the following medical staff appointments for 2008-2009.

Alvin C. Abinsay,                                    Vice Chief of Staff
Robert G. Vyge,MD                              Past Chief of Staff

Thomas Klauber, MD                             Chief of Medicine
Treadwell Campbell, MD                       Chair of Credentials Committee

These six medical staff officers, appointed by the vote of fellow medical staff members, will serve a one-year term. They serve as the collective leadership of the medical staff working closely with Hospital Administration and the Board of Directors.  Their most important role is in establishing clinical policy and providing supervision of clinical quality.  In addition, they play an active role in medical education, interfacing with both the community and the hospital.

Historically, the underlying rationale for these medical staff positions is the belief that a physician is best equipped to facilitate communication between the medical staff and administrators, particularly in areas with direct bearing on the quality of patient care. In addition, they serve as a voice for the medical staff to address policy and procedural matters.

“We are fortunate to have such a fine medical staff,” said Gene Tucker, President and CEO of Marion Regional Healthcare System. All of our physicians are extremely competent, strong patient advocates and supportive of our strategic initiatives. It goes without saying that we are both proud of this fine group and appreciative of all that they do for the hospital and the entire community.”
