Mullins Nursing Center Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

Mullins, SC - First opening its doors on September 17, 1998, Mullins Nursing Center recently celebrated ten years of providing superior long-term care and short-term rehabilitation in Marion County.

English Park Nursing Center and Jenkins Nursing Center, two long-term care facilities in Marion, were merged and moved to the old Mullins Hospital, creating the Mullins Nursing Center, a division of the Marion Regional Healthcare System. The facility now accommodates 92 beds and provides employment for 110 staff members. The Nursing Center offers residents activities with community involvement along with a variety of services including Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy.

The Mullins Nursing Center’s 10 Year Anniversary celebration was held on October 8th with residents, their families, staff and community members in attendance. For the occasion, the Mullins High School Band provided music and the Dietary Department of the Mullins Nursing Center offered delicious hors d’oeuvres.

The event took place in the Nursing Center’s courtyard. Speakers included Rev. Stephen Brown; Jerolyn Watson, Director of Nursing; Elizabeth Baxley, resident; Sheri Flemming, Social Service Manager; Tommy Lett, family member; and Rev. Jason Brewer. Gene E. Tucker, C.E.O., Marion Regional Healthcare System, also shared his reflections on the establishment of Mullins Nursing Center.

The Honorable James R. Battle, Jr. SC House of Representatives- District 57 recognized residents Harold Lucas and Laverne Richardson, who have been at Mullins Nursing Center since its opening. He also recognized three female residents who have reached the 100-year milestone. Flossie Shedrick, who turned 100 years old on April 2, 2008; Bessie Phillips, who turned 102 years old on September 20, 2008; and Janie Cooley, who will turn 104 years old on November 6, 2008. Two family members, Tommy Lett and Sherrie Hinson, were also recognized for their contributions to the facility.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout for the celebration. We owe our families and the community, it is through their continued support that Mullins Nursing Center is so successful,” says Tonya Martin, R.N., LNHA.
