Boateng Joins Marion Regional Healthcare System as Hospitalist

Marion, SC--Yaw Otchere-Boateng, M.D., (Dr. Boat), has joined Marion Regional Healthcare System as a Hospitalist. Dr. Boateng, certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, comes to Marion County from the prestigious Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.  His additional experience includes the VA Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia, and the Johnson City and Indian Path Medical Centers, both located in Kingsport, TN. 

Dr. Boateng earned his MB ChB (MD) from the University of Ghana Medical School in Ghana, West Africa. He completed his education in the United States earning a diploma in Internal Medicine from Yale New-Haven Health in Bridgeport, CT, a facility in which he also completed his residency.

Dr. Boateng has made numerous medical presentations including:  “The Socio-Economic Impact of Sickle Cell Disease”, “The High Cost of Drugs and the Outcome of Diabetes and Hypertension in a Community Hospital”, along with “The Outcome of Malaria in Children”.

Dr Boateng is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and the Ghana Medical Association.

“I am pleased to be in Marion County and I look forward to working with Marion Regional Healthcare System.  I hope to farm and to become active in the Methodist Church here.” The Ghana born physician is married and is the father of four. Dr. Boateng lists soccer, gospel music, travel and gardening among his interests.

The Hospitalist program, new to Marion County, will provide a higher level of care to the patient.  According to Gene Tucker, President and CEO of Marion Regional Healthcare System, “We feel that the implementation of the Hospitalist program will help ensure our patients the highest quality of care available.”
